As Canada’s most prestigious trainee competition, the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of the most sought-after fellowship opportunities for postdoctoral fellows. The objective of the program is to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent.
Host institutions are asked to endorse only their highest-calibre postdoctoral researchers. In order to ensure that the highest-quality applicants are nominated for the national competition, UBC conducts an Internal Banting Competition, which will identify the strongest applicants to receive the institutional endorsement.
It is an applicant’s responsibility to determine their eligibility for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program, and the Supervisor’s responsibility to determine whether the candidate is competitive and would meet the highest standards as defined by Banting. Supervisors must work with applicants in preparing a Banting Application Package by Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10:00 AM PDT, NO EXCEPTIONS. For submission details, please visit the PDFO website.
In previous years, adjudication of the UBC Internal Banting Competition has been administered by the PDFO. The internal adjudication process is now being managed by the Awards unit within the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. To ensure that their deadlines are met, the UBC internal competition deadline has been set for mid-July. Due to the tight timeline, we are unable to accept applications past this date.
Please be advised that Banting Postdoctoral Fellows are entitled to benefits and it is the PI’s responsibility to ensure that they or their unit have the funding to cover these expenses. This template was designed to assist Supervisors/PIs in crafting competitive Supervisor’s Statements as per the Banting competition requirements, and it is highly recommended that Supervisors/PIs consult this document as part of the application process.
