Healthy Outcomes through Genomic Innovations

Genome Alberta and Genome BC are launching a new funding program – Healthy Outcomes Through Genomic Innovations (Healthy Outcomes), focusing on implementation research designed to accelerate the development and adoption of genomics infrastructure and genomics-enabled technologies to improve healthcare within each jurisdiction’s unique health system. The partnership between Genome Alberta and Genome BC is intended to:

  • Facilitate knowledge exchange between Alberta and British Columbia and lay the groundwork for longer term collaboration that will help advance precision health across both provinces.
  • Learn from each jurisdiction’s strengths
  • Provide opportunities for networking and training between Alberta and British Columbia

Parameters and Key Eligibility Criteria:

  • Total of +$3M in funding available from Genome Alberta and Genome BC
  • Up to $250,000 from each of Genome Alberta and Genome BC will be available per project
  • Minimum project budget size is $300,000
  • A minimum 1:2 co-funding ratio (Lead Genome Centre: all co-funding sources)
  • Project term must be in the range of 6 to 18 months
  • Projects must:
o   Align to the objectives of the program
o   Plan to employ genomics to achieve the project objectives
o   Meet the specific program criteria (see detailed guidelines, available here)

Through this competition, Genome Alberta and Genome BC aim to:

  • De-risk and stimulate adoption of genomics-based testing and technologies into routine care
  • Facilitate access to patient genomics data within a learning health system for research purposes and to inform clinical decision-making
  • Facilitate equal access to genomics-based testing across rural and urban settings
  • Foster genomics-based solutions that enhance health outcomes (by improving patient stratification, prognoses, diagnoses, and/or treatment strategies) and/or improve efficiencies of the healthcare system

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are due by October 21, 2024. Only selected applicants will be invited to submit a Full Application due by November 25, 2024.
