LFS Processes & Procedures

Signatures for Grant Applications

  • Please allow at least 48-hour turnaround time for LFS signatures.
  • UBC Office of Research Services (ORS) has a 2 working days (or 5 working days for major competition periods) turnaround policy for signatures. We suggest you start the signature process at least 1 week before the sponsor competition deadline.
  • Grant applications with a private-sector partner (i.e. company), industry association or producer group must now include a Risk Assessment Form (RAF) completed by the researcher and, if necessary, a risk mitigation plan. To meet this new requirement, a RAF must be completed by the researcher and submitted to UBC Research Security Team for validation as early as possible, but no later than five (5) business days‘ prior to the sponsor’s full application deadline.
  • Before applying for federal funding, researchers should consider a few simple questions to determine if their research may be subject to federal research security policies. UBC’s Research Security Team is available to provide support and resources related to these new requirements, as well as to guide you in implementing best practices to safeguard your research.
  • RPIF signature requests:

Email Dr. Simone Castellarin, Associate Dean of Research and cc: lfs.research@ubc.ca  and attach your RPIF, and all UBC Office of Research Services (ORS) required pages/documents along with the Research Project Information Form.

Proposal Review

  • While we will always strive to provide thorough reviews of all the proposals submitted to us, the earlier you can provide us with a draft, the better. In particular, for the major grant deadline periods, we suggest contacting us at least three weeks in advance of the funding agency deadline.
