SSHRC recently launched Destination Horizon Grants to support researchers affiliated with eligible Canadian postsecondary institutions to build capacity, foster existing partnerships, and further develop networks and/or consortia with European Union member states and associated countries, with the ultimate goal of applying to Horizon Europe—Pillar II calls for proposals.
This competition is open to UBCV and UBCO researchers and teams of researchers whose eligible affiliation and primary affiliation is in the social sciences or humanities. Please refer to the SSHRC guidelines for complete details on eligibility.
Value: 15K for 1 year from SSHRC; matched by 15K for one year by host institution
Deadline: January 22 (On a pilot basis, VPRI will provide matching funds for successful applications)
Upcoming deadlines: May 22; September 22 (Matching funding will be determined by the Vice-President, Research & Innovation and Vice-Principal Research & Innovation [Okanagan] based on strategic priorities and established partnerships; matching funds will be subject to budgetary availability)
UBC may only submit 3 applications per competition. SSHRC will enter all eligible applications into a randomized selection process. Individuals may apply for multiple competitions but once they receive an award may not reapply. Internal selection – UBCV and UBCO: Deadline 9 am January 10
To be considered for UBC’s internal selection, please submit a maximum 2-page proposal including:
- Description of existing partnership(s) with a researcher(s) from at least one European Union member state and/or associated country and the potential to build on or to expand the partnership(s).
- Briefly explain the specific and overall research goals of the partnership.
- A budget justification detailing the proposed expenses and the 1-year timeline for activities (Please ensure eligibility of items).
- Attach the CV(s) of applicant(s) following SSHRC format.

UBC will use a randomized selection process to select up to three eligible applications to submit to SSHRC. Applicants will be notified of selection no later than January 13.
