Are you looking for funding to hire international undergraduate students to work full-time on your research for Summer 2026? The Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards (WLIURA) provides an award subsidy to hire international undergraduate students to work on your research projects while allowing students to explore workplace and research skills. These awards are valued at $6,000 and are distributed across seven Faculties/Schools at UBC Vancouver Campus.
Based on the current BC’s minimum wage requirements (min. wage of $17.85/hour), the minimum pay for the tenure of the award of 16 weeks is $10,395.84, inclusive of 4% vacation pay. In addition, supervisors are required to fund benefits (CPP, EI, WCB, BC EHT) amounting to approximately 10.47% of the monthly wage. Hence, the minimum top-up from the supervisor is currently $5,484.28, but may be updated to reflect any increases to the BC Minimum Wage in 2026.
The Faculty of Land and Food Systems has Fifteen (15) WLIURAs available for 2026.
Summer 2026 Program Timeline:
- The Call for Research Project Proposals will be from November 24, 2025 – January 28, 2026.
- Note: Faculty members will need to submit a proposal(s) on UBC CareersOnline. A student can work with a faculty member to submit a proposal together.
- The Career Centre to send all research project proposals pertaining to the Faculty/School by February 10, 2026.
- Deadline for Faculty/School offices to submit their list of funded proposals to the Career Centre by February 27, 2026.
- The Career Centre will send funding decisions to faculty members on week of March 3, 2026.
- For faculty members who have not indicated an internal candidate for their position(s), it will be posted on UBC CareersOnline for students to apply from March 9 – 25, 2026.
